Band of the Year 2012 Live Feed

If you were not at the House of Blues in Dallas for the first semi-final on May 24, you should have been – just see the photos! The quality of music was fantastic, with every band of a quality that would grace the FINAL at Austin City Limits Live at the Moody Theatre on June 16.

The Judges had a tough time picking the winners, and deliberated long and hard before announcing the two bands to go through to the final:  Larry g(EE) and theRESPONSE

Larry g(EE)’s debut EP “Weekends” is truly the sound of an artist coming of age. After the 2010 break-up of his band of 5 years, Larry is set break out with his first solo effort. While the sound of this project is influenced by the soul sounds of ’60′s/’70′s-era group harmonies, he is not trying to replicate that sound entirely “I’m anything but a pure traditionalist or revivalist.” says Larry The music draws from the Motown/Stax period as much as it does from modern day hip-hop. “Weekends” is a collection of retro funk-soul songs with a contemporary twist. This unique album will separate Larry from the pack as an emerging artist on the rise.

theRESPONSE is a group of artists from Austin, TX. The band formed in 2009, and is passionate about creating art that directs people to something bigger than themselves. HIGHLIGHTS: – Released “With One Voice” [November 2010] – Released Currents [January 2012] – Creation Festival NW 2011 Indie Stage Winner [July 2011] – Tour with African Children?s Choir in Uganda [March 2011] MEMBERS: Russell Parks [Drums], Tanner Evans [Bass], Jeremy Brown [Synth], Taylor Stearns [Vox/Keys/Cello], Steve Mielke [Vox/Guitar].

Our thanks go to our panel of very professional and experienced judges Mike Clay, Garett Dollgener and Jon Stutler.

The other bands making it to the semi-final did a great job, and we look forward to hearing entries from them again next year:

The Phuss is an eccentric three piece outfit hailing from North Texas comprised of Joshua Fleming (Vocals/Guitar) Trey Alfaro (Drums) and Forrest Barton (Bass). Loud, high energy live performances have been the main focus since day one, along with writing solid honest songs.

Mike Milligan and The Altar Boyz  describe their unique sound as “Texas Blues with Louisiana Attitude”. This is what happened when they combined their ethnic mixture of original sounds. .. Front man / Lead singer, Mike Milligan. former front man for “DELTA ROUX”, brings to the group powerful vocals, often compared to Junior Medlow, and a unique harp style that is definately his own.

A veteran musician who has displayed his talents all over Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington State, Oregon, California, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, South Dakota and Western Europe. Winners of the 2009 Austin Blues Society’s “HEART of TEXAS BLUES CHAL LENGE” and participants in the I.B.C International Blues Challenge in Memphis Feb. 2009

The extremely dynamic performer, Dawn Maracle, visually and musically captures her audiences, both young and old. True to her passion as a professional entertainer, she is an accomplished award-winning singer and songwriter. Dawn’s high-energy and wide vocal range, coupled with her original songwriting (played either solo acoustic or on her electric lead guitar with her band), make for a winning combination. Dawn’s voice has been likened to such greats as Janis Joplin, Patsy Cline and Grace Slick.
